Surf Spots - The Rules!

Surf Spots - The Rules!

Postby PapaW » Fri Dec 09, 2005 1:24 pm

Ok Just to make it clear...

Please avoid posting directions to little known or 'secret' spots and/or images of said spots that give the location away.

We all want to surf new spots but a little effort on everyone's part and we can keep them safe.
Those who have the skills will know where to look and will have the ability to surf them. Those who don't, you'll get there with practice :)

The last thing we want is learners turning up on dangerous breaks as someone will get hurt.

Well said.
Secret spots should be kept as just that. If you are bothered to look you deserve to surf them.

heres mine, located after sandy beach on the same southern coastline just before you reach the east shore

Image

the thing is, i enjoy seeing beginners and longboarders struggling against the current and seeing rocks "pop up" around them because ive been through that and destroyed my best surfboard there, and ive seen many other corpse laying on the beach.

(dont bring your longboard unless you enjoy being dragged into rocks, or you want to give us a show!)

maybe im just a jerk.

Papa, very nice way to say 'Keep the f*** away!' No, seriously, I think it was very encouraging to point out that beginners will eventually get there with practice. Very true. Well stated.

Localism is something born of evil bloodlines. Localism causes other people to behave as they do when they go to visist somewhere. If you think you own a beach because you go there often, your wrong. When you go somewhere you start to act like that very person that came onto your beach and caused you to take pride in the localism fake. Its an endless cycle of bullying. I wish most people behaved by the codes!!! Longboarders always take the wave first because they stand up first, putting shortboarders at a major disadvantage. Even though you can catch the wave it dosn't mean yo should take every wave you can. You can if you want, but people are going to disrespect you.

The most respected surfers in my opinion are the ones who take small waves and do the best with it.

"Try not to sweat the small stuff, and one more thing it's all small stuff"

Localism and hoping others fail, essentially, proves you have no idea of what the true spirit of surfing is all about!

Bitterness and self righteousness will always lead to failure; emotionally, physically & spiritually.

Hearing everyone's comments about localism versus respecting the code and ocean has held for a very interesting debate.

I totally agree, I'm also a believer of the fact that instant gratification does more harm than good. Therefore, to me the greater the sacrifice the sweeter the reward.Who cares if there's bullies all around, there's waves enough for everyone. What doesn't kill you makes you surf stronger. In my experience those guys are usually the ones with all the gear and no idea. When you happen to make the right calls and find those rolling beauties by yourself there's no greater feeling in the world.
