In my opinion this is what makes Roys' boards Roys' boards.
You go drive a go-cart around a track then a van around the country and then vica versra - the experience is diametrically opposing but still a challenge in both cases – this is the fun part surely ?

I just think that his boards are more works of art than actual surfboards, they look amazing, but practical im not so sure about seeing as he just pulled out of sending one over to the uk i guess ill never get the chance to find out.

i mean im pretty sure i could make a board that big and could stick a fin on it, paddle it out at saunton and catch waves, i mean kelly slater can ride an upside down table, doesnt mean its anygood....

Yep here, here i to would love to know what her thought of it. I love the bit too where they suggest to Garrett techniques on how to surf! I think he's probably riden enough different boards in his time to work that one out for himself!

I don't think it's too smart to pre-judge Roy's boards having not seen or ridden them. I haven't either, but I'd love to have a go on one. Just because Roy get people wound up doesn't mean his boards are shite.

But from reading some of the comments on surf.co.nz about it, a few people really enjoyed that board when it did a trip round NZ. If it happens again, and finds its way to Southland, I'll definitely try to get a go on one and give an honest opinion if it.

my views are based on the feedback from a few pro surfers that i respect who have given an unbiased view on the board. besides if he didnt want us to judge his boards he shouldnt make posts like this on the forum.

i just dont think there practical, funcional, or could make the most from what a wave has to offer.

id like roy to prove me wrong and send that board to the UK

I still have the opinion that Roy’s' 'boards offer something different for the surf fraternity.

It's a board for the ocean waves - and in my opinion, any craft for riding ocean waves is one worth a gander.

You could of course go and purchase the ultimate surf-craft - a BIC.

SO - ASSESMSNT REQUIRED:

State the stoke of a Roy, and state the stoke of a BIC ….

Since the photo was taken Garrett has taken the 13 footer out again and said that it went much better the second time. He also said that he's going to take the board out again. Sean Davey has pictures of the second session but isn't publishing them on the net as he's saving them for magazine articles

It's really quite simple, the board is designed to be ridden from the middle not back on the tail where most boards are ridden. It's a different concept from the regular boards out there, and it works very well indeed. Garrett is used to tail riding guns, so needs a few sessions to dial the board in.

We're also building a quiver of tow in boards for Garrett, the parallel profile system is ideal for thin tow in boards and in fact when I checked the dimensions of our 1995 singlefins, they are very close to some of the longer tow in boards in width and thickness.

It's fun designing tow in boards as for once we don't have to think about buoyancy. . .

I sincerely hope that you remain steadfast in your opinion, after all we can't have every phil riding them. Huge wooden boards are the domain of the elite, and should not be in the hands of the incompetent.
