Cold nights in the campervan?

winter is upon us yet we still want to go to Bantham and surf. Our campervan has no heating
and we were thinking of installing a small wood stove.

This little stove looks ideal for a campervan installation.
any one have any other suggestions?

If your going to install a wood stove then you will also need to fit it wit a chimney that is made from the orrect insulated pipe. Wood stoves are good but there is the obvious fire risk associated with them. Good for the bigger vans not so good for the smaller ones.

My lady moans all the time about how cold my room is and that's got a radiator and walls so I reckon there's no chance I'll ever get her to commit to a trip in a camper van. Shame as its her loss when you've got a proper VW. Will just have to go with my boys this summer!

I have slept many a nights in my van (not a comfy camper van, just a typical minivan with the two back seats out...plenty of room!), and I have found that the best thing is just a legitimately good sleeping bag. there are sleep systems out there for the coldest temperatures. you will have the warmest and most comfortable night's sleep, trust me. the only problem with it is getting out of the bag in the morning...brrrr! but if your van is like mine, when the sun rises, the temperature inside the van raises pretty quickly.

The other thing you MUST be aware of is if the flue doesn't draw properly then you may get a CO (carbon monoxide) build up... This KILLS. get a CO detector for your van. Also do this if u use any open flames to heat.. ie the gas cooker.

In my old camper van there was no chance of that thanks to the massive gaping rusting holes all over the place. But if you do have a half decent van that doesn't whistle when the wind blows I would agree with PapaW to get such a CO detector as my neighbours brother died from carbon monoxide poisoning in his flat.

Check out Walmart. In the automotive section they have battery powered blankets that are for your car in case of an emergency break down in the winter. They plug into your car cigarette lighters to charge, I believe, and warm you right up!
