I answered an ad on craigslist for a bodyglove wetsuit. price is good. He claims it's a winter wetsuit. how can I tell? should I ask him to meet me at a surf shop for confirmation? Also, is body glove a good wetsuit brand?

body glove is a good brand, but mainly it should fit well. You can tell if its a winter suit by how thick it is, meaning more thickness = more warmth. also depends on your temeprature level, if your alil chuby water colder to you will be even colder to someone else. ALso it depends on where you live, where the water temperature directly relates to the size of the wetsuit you want to get.
