philosophy (mainly eastern e.g vedantic etc...) keeps me calm in the water otherwise i would strangle some one :wink:

A Vedantic Perspective

The fundamental truth as taught by all religions is that man has to transform his base human nature into the divine that is within him. If Christ is true, Krishna and Buddha are also true. Let there be many teachers, many scriptures; let there be churches, temples, and synagogues. Every religion is a path to reach the same goal. When the goal is reached the Christian, the Jew, the Sufi, the Hindu, and the Buddhist realize that each has worshiped the same Reality. One who has attained this knowledge is no longer a follower of a particular path or a particular religion. He has become a man of God and a blessing to mankind.

my advice to anybody interested in reading eastern philosophies such as the "Vedas" , "Puranas" , "Shastras" , "Mahabarata" , etc etc... is to get a translated version (unless you can read their native tongue) into english and NOT one that includes some dudes own views and bias. Make your own mind up and get it as raw as possible. Even then the language unless you are aquinted with the particular terms might be a little confusing for those new but you pick up the lingo relativerly quickly.

A lot of taoist and buddhist philosophies are really cool too. Leaves a real calming effect

I think books that have helped most are books involving martial arts. I have been taking Kung-Fu off and on all my life along with surfing and it has greatly improved my balance, as well as recovering my balance and range of motion as well as surroundings. I have read different books involving different forms of martial arts and learned lots of different aspects. It also helps with clearing your mind as well.

A damn good road atlas helps too.
