Started on shortbaord have some questions

whats up guys new to the forum. i just started yesterday i got a tuflite epoxy 6'8 CI Flyer one of the big boy shortboards cuz i didnt wanna start off longboarding i wanted to go straight with the shortboard route and i went out and i was fine it was choppy and inconsistent so it wasnt the best first day but i was fine and got up my first time and had some good rides but i felt like it was too bulky for me and felt like i easily could of went shorter and smaller. do u guys think i should keep going on it or work on selling it and getting something smaller?

Whats your height and weight? Good job making it up on your first day out, not a easy thing to do when first learning on a shorty.

5'10-5'11, 160-165 pushin 170 now cuz im a little out of shape and have to get my ass back in the gym but yea ive been snowboarding all my life and skatebaording and it just felt real natural i dunno lol

Thats a pretty good size for your specs. I would say stick with the board and give it some more time. If I was the same specs as you I prob would of picked the same exact size your on now. You could go a few inches shorter, but I wouldnt bother with it since your new to a shortboard.

yea i was out today in jersey real nice ground swell from the southeast waves were pumpin but on my paddles out this thing is hard to duckdive cuz its so bouyant any suggestions?

Just get fitter and paddle harder.
Aim between the peaks if you can.
Turn to face the shore, sit on the board and hang on, when you need to.
Check behind you, if clear push the board gently away and dive for the bottom.
Pay someone to JetSki tow you out !

what up guys, so i want to move onto a shorter board this summer, keep this board and get a little better for the first 1/3 of the summer than switch. as u read above u know my ability. as i stated before the board i have now just feels too bulky for me and i would feel a lot more comfortable on a shorter board and just want to get rid of that real floaty way too buoyant tuflite feel. i was just wondering what would be a good size? i was thinking something along the lines of 6'2-6'4 x 18 1/2"-19" x 2' 3/8 - 2' 1/2. what do u guys think?

Hahahaha - I bet you used to think a surfboard was a surfboard and they were all basically the same.

Well, whether you did or didn’t your next board needs to allow you to turn and get some moves down ! Whhoooeeee – all right.

I reckon you should go no smaller than 6’2” x 19 ½ x 2 ¼ custom.

Anything decent (just) over these dimensions should see you falling off regular as clockwork again! – but moving you on to some good moves in the next chapter of your surfing.

haha yea thanks. i love surfing and have been in love with the ocean all my life. i surfed wen i was little but stopped. i will never give up the love for surfing, u know how they say after u catch ur first real wave and go down the line the stokedness u get from it is unbelievable and after that surfing becomes life haha.
