tiki fatboy?

tiki fatboy?

Postby bmth.longboarder » Sat Jan 10, 2009 9:56 pm

hi im going on a surf trip to france in the summer and was thinking about a new board to take. Im usually on a 8'4" longboard or a 6'1" retro fish so im used to high volume boards! I would like to move onto something a bit more high performance so i was thinking about a tiki fatboy which is 6’10 x 20 1/4" x 2 5/8" as it looks to be a good performance board but with plenty of volume. Has anyone used/got one? or recommend something that would suit my needs? cheers...

Why go 4 something so long? If ur already riding a retro fish (im assuming its less than 6ft 2) then u should be able 2 ride a big shortboard with plenty of volume say 6ft 6! This should have much better performance than the tikki board! KS

hmm i suppose so it was just the overall dimensions of the board that drew me to it (and price). As i have tried a 6'4" around 18" wide standard shortboard before and it didn't work for me so the large width of this board appealed to me.

im thinking about going to a shaper now as the basic shortie works out near the same price as a factory made tiki! so im thinking a big beefy shortboard around 6'6" X 20" X 2.8" that should be pretty good i think. by the way im 5'7" tall and weigh around 11 stone.

I wouldn't go that wide on a short board! Two much width with a short board rocker will cause water to slow under the board making it very slow and hard to paddle. 19 tops and with your weight 2.8 is also too thick IMO. Go for 2 5/8 instead.
