Summer surf on Oahu

Summer surf on Oahu

Someone please recommend some decent beaches on Oahu for summer surf for my 12-year old who's a B+ surfer. I'm riding myself but I'll be happy pretty much with whatever. Anywhere besides Waikiki that anyone's aware of? Thanks!

I don't think anything is wrong with Waikiki because I go there every week to surf but if you wan't to go somewhere other than Waikiki I can think of two places. One is Barber's Point on the west shore. I think you can rent boards there and theres quite a bit of people there. Waves are pretty good sized but I'm not sure how the summer is there. Its also slightly choppy but still I seen lots of kids there. Another place is Haleiwa. Haleiwa is on the north shore but it doesn't get big in the summer so its good of you want to just have fun. I never surfed there but theres a place there where you can rent and learn to surf and I think lots of kids learn there as well. Its farther but I think the wave quality may be better depending on what break. Chun's reef is pretty good. If you're look for south shore, then I would say Diamond Head or Ala Moana. Those places may be a bit territorial, but I think Diamond Head is more mellow although I never surfed there before. The only thing with Diamond Head is that you have to climb down like a cliff kinda thing but the waves there are good in the summer. Hope that helps you!
