good rash vest?

good rash vest?

Postby Silver Surfer » Tue Oct 14, 2008 1:14 pm

Hi,

I've always worn a cotton t-shirt under my wetty in winter to add an extra layer and also to avoid the dreaded nipple rash.

However cotton is cotton and works ok, but, can anyone reccomend a really warm rash vest maybe long sleeved that really makes a big difference in winter, thats actually worth the money and not just a fasion statement? :? (O'NEILL THERMO-X LONG SLEEVE CREW looks like it might actually be good?)

Happy winter :D :D :D surfing!

I got an Alder long sleeve thermo last year. Really warm. Can't remember the name, but it's black and red. Got it at the little pink shop in Croyde.

"The dreaded nipple rash", lol.

I hadn't thought of that in 25 years, since I was a lad boogie boarding in Southern California. Thank God for Florida and 85 degree water 8)

Shoot in 85 degree water I get more nipple rash, and my ribs get sore too.
The wettie is good for some protection and padding too.

Gul thermo rash vest from ebay...works a treat in winter and last few days to 'extend' the use of a summer wettie!

A cotton t-shirt is not good news to wear for warmth - when wet they will give you a chill as they don't hold any heat. You need polypropelene or another wicking fibre such as merino wool. Most thermal rashies are man made polypropelene. I have a thermo X and they are very good and certainly WARM! I also have an Xcel poly pro rashie which is v good but not as thick and warm but harder wearing and a tighter fit. Doesn't feel as nice as the Thermo X - I'd go for one of O'Neill personally. If you are in UK trans surf have them at good prices.

I think after wearing a cotton shirt you should notice a big difference.

Well, had excel polly pro longsleave all winter under my wetsuit. Feels like my 3-2 is actually a 5-3! And when summer came . . . I kept it on!

Can definately recommend!
