foam board too short ?????

im 14 and interested in learning to surf. I've had one lesson and found it quite easy to stand on relatively small waves using a soft board. The surfboard that I am looking at is approximately 165 cm tall (cheap foam brand), i am approx 154cm and 45 kg's, is the board too short. If so, where can i buy a cheap foamie of suitable size in australia.

No It dosent sound as if the board is to short at all and with your weight it will for surley float you. Good luck and have fun.

Dont buy a foamie - you'll outgrow it (in terms of skill) within days. They're really only any use for beginners on their first ever trip into the water. And you've done that now

Buy a cheap pop-out. That'll keep you going for far longer, until you're ready to buy a "proper" board

thanks for replies. the reason i was looking at a foamie is because i can only get to the beach during summer, and didn't think that i would really go much further than basic surfing.

I have been looking at pop outs, but i'm struggling to find any brands that are as cheap as the soft board ($60 - $150). any reccomendations?

yes buy a used cheap funboard instead

also check Craigslist and other "for sale" sites. And, I am sure being in Australia, that if you check around in newspapers and yard sales you can find a decent board for cheap from someone.

go there and choose the location that you are closest then search for surfboard. I m sure 99% of aussies are surfer so there would be plenty of surfboard laying around.

The melbourne craigslist doesnt seem to have many boards (hell, theres no surf). Maybe try http://melbourne.gumtree.com.au

There's quite a few learner boards on there.

boards on gumtree all seem to be seem to be only 1.5 metres, except for a few mini mals etc. i will keep looking
