buying my first surfboard

Seriously though, I wouldnt describe that as even a hybrid fish - its a funboard that happens to have a swallowtail.

But, as long as you're not particularly tall/heavy (giving us your dimensions as well as the board always helps. And where you surf) that board would be a good 'step up' board.

Wow being that short and light you might want to -dont stone me guys - look at a smaller board even a shortboard with a thicker outline might do the trick. Best thing to do is buy second hand though and if at all possible try a shortboard and see how you get on with it

The nsp funboard is epoxy, and kinda heavy, I bought one for my kids because they are virtually indestructable. The one you are considering if fiberglass, and looks a little ligher/thinner/narrower, but not much.

Looks like a funboard with a swallow tail, probably more fun that your funboard, but should just as easy to catch waves, especially as light as you are.

ruh-roh...don't mix 'my first surfboard' and 'retro fish.' you open yourself up for chastising. just because a retro fish can be ridden in what was typically only the realm of logs, doesn't mean it rides like a log. you would probably be fine on a retro fish of that size, but i'd stick with either a funboard or longboard for now. the twin fin setup is really loose and squirrely for beginners. but at the same time, it will give you room to progress. so i don't know, see if you can borrow one or rent a twinny before you buy

A retro fish is not a good board for learning on besides the fact that it also has limits as to what surf it can be used in. Actually a shortboard isnt really reccomended however based on your size and if you are athletic it might be worthwile seeing how you get on. One things for sure a funshape 6'8 would be ideal. Like i said previously if you can try a shortboard out and then you can compare that experience with the other boards and take it from there

do not buy a 6'2" retro fish, you won't learn too easily on that. For begginers stable and big is better. Stick to your first choice, then when you get better keep it for small days and go out and buy a small fish, but not to learn.
