ECU Surf Challenge 2008 Presented by Retravision

The ECU Surf Challenge is a fun event that is designed to appeal to all surfers. The competition is organised and conducted by the undergraduate students in the ECU South West Surf Science program.

The Challenge commenced in 2003 at Bunbury’s Back Beach. In 2005 the event was moved to the beautiful Yallingup Beach. This year, we are anticipating great surfing conditions, quality competitors and a large assemblage of spectators at the Yallingup amphitheatre. The ECU Surf Challenge is renowned as a competition that surfers from across the state eagerly anticipate. Open Men’s, Open Women’s and Junior Boys & Girls divisions will be conducted with the first heats scheduled to commence at 0730.

Past pre-eminent competitors include Jay Davies, Zack Ogram, Tom Innes, Rob Sheridan, Jarrod McHale, Chad Simpson, Bell Anderson, Matt Delroy-Carr and Jason Duffy. We are anticipating some 60 surfers to battle it out for the glory and prizes this year.

The Challenge has always been a wonderful success; proficiently judged keen competition for the surfers and entertaining exciting action for the spectators. This year we intend to have live music entertainment, food and drinks provided and some fun beach competitions.

Spring conditions at Yallingup will hopefully bring great surf and sunny skies to make our ECU Surf Challenge an extremely enjoyable day. There are some fabulous prizes up for grabs. A wonderful range of surf products donated by our kind sponsors Rusty, Creatures of Leisure, Evolution Surf and Indiana Surf. We have been fortunate to secure Retravision as our major naming rights sponsor and we would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank them and all our sponsors for their generous support to our event. Without such generosity, our event would not ensue.
