Magic Carpets - a bit like mini mals

Just interested to know are Magic Carpets designed to be like longboards but easier to move around? Are they quite easy going and good in all conditions? They look a bit like mini mals to me but I'm new to this - is there much of a differnce?

They ride a bit like a longboard in terms of stability but turn far more quickly, the paddle is a fair bit harder, although not as hard as a shortboard and they can be a lot more sketchy on take off.

In my experience (9'3" longboard + 6'10" Nine Plus Magic Carpet) I found the carpet really needs clean/glassy waves to get the most fun out of it (size isn't that important) and then it's just a compete blast to ride - even as a moderately novice surfer, the fun factor is high.

In choppy waves, the extra effort to keep the smaller board in balance can remove some of the fun, in which case, the longboard is a whole lot more enjoyable, just because it's easier.........

Mines good in all conditions bar very short steep shore breaks. I made it on the heavy side so that it would glide and make sections better as im a lazy surfer but as such you need to start paddling early.

I think I class myself as lazy too (probably why I longboard) and I think that sort of hits the nail on the head as to why I prefer my longboard now....

Don't get me wrong, I LOVED my Carpet and I've ridden it in surf from knee high to well overhead, but I just found the paddle out more of a chore - especially once it got choppy or bigger than chest high.

But I WOULD have some sort of hybrid thing again in a heartbeat - maybe something around 8' with a longboard template and rounded pintail to get that loose feel, only to be nearly as easy to paddle as my longboard.......

Or just get a big arsed log built around 10' so it's a piece of wee wee to paddle out and stay lazy.
