Loading 3 boards on car?

Loading 3 boards on car?

Postby Lorelai » Sat Jul 05, 2008 1:19 pm

Don't worry this isn't about types of roof racks :)

I've a hard rack to work with and three boards. Two 7'9 and a 7'6 and a three hour motorway (/highway) drive (with a fast car/driver). Loading the three on top of each other doesn't seem to be the safest idea..

Was wondering would boards side be side (2 and 1 obviously) be ok?

Could try fit the 7'6 inside the car, then the two people in the back can cosy up.

Sorry, I'm sure this is the most obvious question but I'm a newbie at these things and flying down a motorway isn't the best place for trial and error.

My super unknowledgable self is super greatfully appreciative to annnnnnnyyy input. Thank you!

take the fins off and get them ontop of each other upside down use tie-down straps to hold them to your roof rack [not bondage tight] you'll be fin.
My brother-in-law has his inside his Defender and thought it was the safest place in the world until he had to brake sharp on the motorway and it shot forwards and out the front screen, luckily no one was sitting in the passenger seat.

Nope, leave the fins on, and have them at the front of the car facing upwards - that way if the boards start to slide backwards, the fins will stop them sliding out and onto the unfortunate car driver behind.

just back from a weekend taxiing 3 french lads around sligo, had 5 boards on the roof at one stage....
just make sure there's no side to side movement or space at the sides between the straps and the boards... if the straps are tight the boards won't go anywhere...if i'm carrying 3 boards i'd normally put em all on top of each other...

As dbb and garbarrage say, tie em on tight fins up and forward.

Fins up, forward. If you want you can wrap a blanket around the one in the middle, but not necessary. I drive with 4 that way (1 longboard, 3 short) and I like to drive fast.
