thoughts about kitesurfing?

Yes, I am a kiter and always hear about 'tension' or something between surfers and kiters. So I thought I go directly to the source...

So for all you surfers out there who do NOT kite...tell me how you feel about us...have any interest in trying the sport? How about if you were able to learn directly on your surfboard and the cost of entry was more around the $1000-$1500?

There is no them and us. Personally i have never wittnesed any agro or attitude between surfers and kitesurfers. There's frequently clashes between surfers and surfers with respect to dropping in but in over 9 years of kitesurfing i have never had one incident whereby a surfer has got annoyed with me.

Very bizarre approach.

Personally I didn't realise there was any 'tension'. They're usually on different parts of the beach and whenever I've been surfing in the same part as them they were never in MY way!
(Don't start me on canoes and jet-skis :lol:

Would I learn to Kitesurf? Nope! I can't dilute my skills anymore. I do enough sports and can't be arsed learning any new ones, even if it only costs the tiny amount of $1500!?! :shock:

At some breaks in San Diego the kite surfers aren't all that nice all the time. Some guys I know that go to Tourmaline on windy days when kite surfers are out there have almost been ran over by them or have to watch out so the kite strings don't take their heads off. Personally I haven't had any issues. They tend to stay away from where I sit in the water.

never even thought about the cost.... but that would definitely put me off. $1000 wtf?! :shock:

all a bit too complicated for me. love just sittin waiting for a wave. even love the paddling.
never had a problem with kiters before... except one guy in lahinch before christmas. and even that wasn't that bad. he was really good at it! every so often he would come shooting towards me. and then stop just short of clobbering me. scared the **** out of me! he seemed to enjoy negotiating the obstacles.

couldn't get mad anyway. it was fairly strong onshore so i suppose it was his turn!

I think kitesurfers are very useful.

...If there are kitesurfers out at Maroubra, then its way too windy to bother going in. Saves getting out the van and going for a look :lol:

lol. I hardly ever see kitesurfers here out at my breaks 9there usualy on the estuary) if they are its usualy either flat or nasty.

I see kite surfers and most of the surfers just ignore him or give him a applauding shout when he makes those air trick.

Why do so many of them wear boardies over the top of a wetsuit? Is it because they've all got real bad camel toe? Does it mean that most surfers have a bigger set of plums than kiteys?

Anyway, I've got no problem with them.

Yuppie windw@nkers, jet skis and snot nosed clubbies in orange fizz boats I do have a big problem with though.

That is a very good question one which divides the kiting comumity. Personally i think it looks fooking hilarious and take the p*ss at every opportunity. Fair enough when wearing a shorty wear boardies, it just looks like your wearing boardies but boardies over a full wetsuit, its not for me.
I even saw a guy a few evenings ago in a dry suit with boardies over it who was struggling to get his harness on and couldn't work out why! No doubt all the clothes he had on under his drysuit i expect! Numpty!

Thanks for some of your input. Yes, I posted that posting on a Kite forum in search of a designer. Got some amazing responses. I am not trying to clog up forums with some bizarre marketing scheme. Just had some questions about the interaction with surfers and kiters, so thought I would go directly to the source.
