Black surfboards yay or nay - Updated with pics

Black surfboards yay or nay - Updated with pics

Postby isaluteyou » Sun Mar 16, 2008 5:53 pm

Went to art store today and got myself a ton of different paint. Iam thinking of doing one of my boards in black as the main coat with my logo's in yellow. Anythoughts on what the cons of doing a black board is.

Have also ordered up all my glassing thanks to kitey for the info :D

Cheers all.

UPDATE OF BOARD IN QUESTION

The top decal is yet to be done and i think the deck needs another coat. The flouresent yellow decal turned out kinda interesting as it left a greenish hue which i dig anyway.

Im gonna do a metalic blue board as well really eager to see that, any idea's on contrasting colours for the decal that would work with metalic blue. As im doing the art work a very much different way the results are sum what unpredictable

oh forget about about that white fish in the background thats what im using to experiment with art on

The board is a 5'11 x 18'1/2 x 2' 1/4 this board is unlikely to see much of the summer slop  but ya thats what my concern was also i figured it would melt the wax easier if it twas too sunny

the colour won't make any difference at all, as the board will be under the water and it's not like your gonna leave it wax up in the direct sunlight anyway! that'd ruin any wax job regardless of colour, go for it

ive done the black board. as long as it doesnt see too much of the sun before it gets in the water, there shouldent be any problems. good luck!

They're more likely to delam, that's why manufacturers like ci surfboards use the heat sensitive technology so the board turns white in excessive heat.
But it'll look cool anyway. :)

Are you spraying directly on the foam or are you spraying under the hot coat?

Looks great brother. One of these days we need to paddle out together.
