Glove Advise

I have a pair of Rip curl size small 3 finger mitts and dont like them coz they fill with a litle water between my fingers and make my arms feel heavy.

I tryed my mates 5 fingered gloves and they were great, so am looking at buying some Xcel Infinty 5 finger of Magic sea weed,

My question is should i go for the 5mm 3mm or 1.5thk glooves, I dont feel the cold much and am swaying towards the 1.5mm, I mainly surf north walse.

Any one got any advise so i dont waist my money. cheers all

If you don't feel the cold, get the thinner ones. IMHO, thicker suits and gloves just knacker you out quicker (or at least that's what I'm finding this winter - maybe I'm just getting old??)

Thats way i was thinking of going for the thinner ones, less weight on the arms less knacked

I surfed for 30 mins on saterday with out glooves b4 my hands got painfully cold

1.5 or 3mm whats every one think

I have the 3mm xcel and wish I had went for the 1.5 mil ones. They knacker you out after 2 hours! Although I never feel the cold with them. They do fill a bit with water, so just have to 'empty' them every 30 mins or so when they get heavy!

how cold is the sea were you surf, here when i wear glooves its between 14 - 7 deg C

Just need to ensure the 1.5thk will keep me handys warm

I think it's around 10 degrees or something like that...northwest Ireland. I have cold hands usually that can't take much, but are toasty warm in the 3mm. I think the 1.5's would be fine too. Go for the 3's if u really want to be warm.

i wear 2mm mits atm on the east coast and one of my mates isn't wearing gloves, and he surfs for around 2-3 hours. he says his hands jsut go numb so he cnt feel them, although i would rather wear glovies. i don't think i'm gonna get mits again though because they're too heavy and too warm

dont wear gloves, first few mintues your hands will be like blocks of ice but theyll warm up after a few minutes of paddling

i think it adds a good few waves onto your sess just by going without them

I needed new gloves this winter couldn't find any three mils up here, hands toasty but no feeling through 5mm i had to buy.

Go as thin as you can handle, new gloves for nxt year.

I had some thin ones, and they really stretch, so they end up full of water :roll:

5mm ones are hideous, go for 3mm.

I get really cold hands...always have done... i've got those 3mm c-skins gloves and they're fine for the winter. Although i look like a bit of a spanner trying to get the second one tucked under my sleeve.

Dbbb could be onto sumting there with the 1.5thk being to stetchy! er am confussed know!

Av got mits, dont like um they get too much water in them between the fingers and feel like uv got leed on the ends of ya arms

'Spanner' - I havent heard that in a while :lol:

Noone looks cool getting into or out of winter kit - just remind yourself that you're a noble warrior battling the elements :wink:

I've got 2mm O'Neill FLX gloves. They are very warm and pretty flexible, they feel a little thick and, if I'm grabbing the rail while in motion, I get a lot of drag in the water that I don't notice when gloveless. I'd get the 1.5mm because they are thinner. I used my gloves on Sunday in 10C (50F) and knew I could get by with less glove.

Let us know how you like the gloves you eventually get. Make sure you do not get a glove that is too large.

I just got some 1.5mm O'Neill ones my 3mm ones were dead, they are stretchier so seem to fit better and actually keep me warmer.
Much more feel, I was worries about being cold, but I'm completely sold.

Get tight 1.5's, if you useually wear small go for xsmall, also go for a very streatchy type.

Thats wat av done 1.5 tight as fxxk excel stretchy going to try them out to moz ill let you all know if there beter than mits etc.

Product Report:-

Bought the 1.5mm Xcel 5 finger gloves, used them at the week end and they were brilliant, felt like i was wearing a pair of sergical gloves, did'nt make my hannds feel heavy or cause noticable drag and keept my hands warm.

Down side - I dont feel the cold as much as some people, my hands wernt cold but not toasty warm. some peoples hands would have been cold in them.

I proberly should have gone for the 3mm ones, but then they could hasve been heavyer and coause more drag???
