spanish people and the sound of H

why is it that we have to pronounce jose like hose and they pronounce julia like hulia??? it only seems fair they should have to pronounce our J as a J since we do vide versa for them.

its cos the spanish have a different alphabet to English, J and H in spanish are sort of like coughing up flem..... and plus spanish is more mwidely spoken the english so really i suppose if anything we should copy them......

Go check that fact mate, English is the most widely spoken language in the world. the only language that can boast more speakers is chinese, but they're nearly all in china.

no def spanish i reckon, think spanish speaking is all central and south america (except brazil) Spain (obviously!) and so other odd places. i would agree though that english is more wide spread in the sense that there are lots of people can speak a tiny bit of it (mostly due to american made films etc), but people fluent it would have to be spanish. check out

Just a bit more random Spanish fact to chuck in here. Spanish pronounce their words with a kind of lisp. Just on mainland Spain that is. In the Canary Islands and Latin America it is not done.
I was told this is because a Spanish King once had a lisp and so the people copied him and it has stuck ever since.

most of the guys I work with are Canarian or Spanish and two are from Argentina. Communication is interesting. They said not to bother learning Spanish, as they all speak it, but don't even understand each other!!

of mine said white guys smell too, she's white herself, but grew up in Botswana. She reckons that personal hygeine over there is bordering on OCD! mind you, she did one comment that one of the reasons she liked me was cos "You always smell so good" so I guess I'm the exception
