hey lovers,
first of all..why do some of you hate newbies so much? i mean, the ocean is open for anyone to share and if i wanna stand on a board in a wave and enjoy myself than damnit thats what im gonna do! but yeah i live in south florida and live by the beach and i have done every water sport, but surfing. the waves in hollywood beach arent exactly the best. im going up to st augustine and cocoa beach with some friends in the beginning of august and i was wondering if any of you know of any good places where you can rent boards or get some lessons. im going to Ecuador in a few months and some people have told me that i have to try to go out because the waves are veryyy nice. so yeah, i need to practice ha

so yeah, dont hate on me. im not here to learn how to sit on the beach in my abercrombie bathing suit and giggle at the 'cute' boys. i actually love the sport. :) thankkkss

I think the reason some surfers don't like noobies is because 1) there is already a ton of people out in the water, no one wants it any more crowded 2) a lot of noobs don't know what to do and get in the way of more expirienced riders.

nothing against newbies - nothign I like more than seeing someone get that dumb surf smile for the first time.

What I do have a problem with is newbies not bothering to read, learn and understand the general etiquette of surfing before they jump in.

Surfing is a sport like any other and at the end of the day a set of guidelines exist to ensure everyone plays nice and no-one gets hurt.

yeah, head out to the cocoa beach pier area (right near where ron jon is)...theres a FREE parking garage right across from ron jon on the same side of the street...in the same garage thees a place that rents tons of different boards...check out that place.
hopefully if youre there in august the surf will be up a bit...more than likely, youll probably be timing it where youre there when a tropical storm or hurricane is out in the atlantic...if so, maybe ill see you there!
i live over on the gulf coast and often make the trek eastward...we're in the middle of a chest high swell in the gulf right now, so im content:)

As Jonny said, the problems with alot of newbies is that they don't learn the proper etiquette and at the very least use their own common sense.

I was out 2 weeks ago and there were alot of beginners in the water as it was very small. I'd my longboard out and got dropped in on 3-4 times.

It's the same as driving, if you see a car coming in your direction why the hell would you pull out right in front of them? It's dangerous to both parties. He dropped in RIGHT infront of me & my longboard ended up hitting him on the head.

He was thought a valuble lesson anyway :lol:

yeah im actually going to cocoa beach from july29- Aug2 .. thanks for the info on board rentals.. i do a lot of bodyboarding, like i have the feel of when the wave is pulling you bak and u go, so now im just focusing on balancing on the surfboard since ive never stood up before. is it tough in the beginning?

i live down in south fla too. i frequent hollywood on the weekends (usually right down Johnson or Hayes), but i agree that the waves there suck, and its not exactly the cleanest. i might be going out to cocoa beach (surfin around airforce base & second light) in august as well, and possibly costa rica before school starts. as for surfing around us and lessons, island water sports (islandwatersports.com) holds free lessons at deerfield beach every saturday from 7am-9am. the waves havent been up...'summer flatness'. i just started surfing a couple months,and it SUX that there's really no waves durin the summer. anyways, if you'd like to talk or need a newb surf buddy i guess just hit me back. take care

yah hollywood sucks. i can only bodyboard once in a while if im lucky lol..i might have to chek out that island water sports..yeah lets talk, i would love to find me a surf buddy

cool. yah at island they provide the boards (fun foamboards) and everything. the beach/water is nice and clean too. is there anywhere i can email ya so we can communicate better then on the boards? hehe
