Narragansett beach in Rhode Island has some pretty nice waves for New England.

Sod the locals.

The ocean is there for everyone to enjoy and love.

As long as you are adhering to correct surfing etiquette there's no problem.

Find a local surf shop and ask for advice where to go. Be honest about your ability and experience. They will steer you straight, it is in their best interest to do so.
