Nah atleast he started at the bottom when he got crushed, he could have gone over the falls... Then you get evenly smashed!

is there anyway that that guy who fell at the bottom could have been picked up by the wave again and did a circular motion? like going over the falls, could he have landed on the bottom gotten picked up to the top and went over again? kinda hard to explain...

also, what are bowls? im guessing its like that pic when the waves were coming in like a bowl but that is so weird.. does that only happen with big waves? thanx

um... thats a basic wipeout... if not, you get driven into the reef/bottom.

OK, my contriubution.

For what it's worth, I reckon the guy in the first picture could get under that lip (wouldn't like to try it myself, but I reckon that wave's got to be moving pretty quickly!!)

I have an alternative to bailing when I'm in this situation. (It's not pretty but it works!)

If I'm shattered and don't have the energy to paddle for a duckdive (eg. when I'm where I am because of a wipeout!) I do this:

Grab my leash where it joins the board, flip the board so it's 'fins up' then swim down and pull the board with me. I can usually get most of my 7'5 mini-mal under the water before the wave hits!!

It's better than just letting go of your board and spearing someone else. But if you're stuck in the impact zone and need to last out until the set's passed by it's an alternative!

Cheers
