Some one mentioned gloves with webbing, cool idea , but not new im affraid, been used for years in other sports. we use em in kayak training when learning to hand roll. they are however very good for swimming, you just have to try them in a pool and you can go almost twice as fast as without, so would probably be wicked for surfers.
Im also very glad to hear im not the only goofy footed right hander in the world, so i sympathise with you Welsh Chick.
as for good ideas, i also like the idea of women exposing them selves at the beech, hardly surprsing Beeichbum has had zero complaints really. the key problem most of you have mentioned, is quite easily solved (i find) if you get a Lazzy Band, to attach the key to you wrist (provided you dont have masses of responsibility and six million keys on there ) then if you have long sleeves, tuck the key under the sleeve on top of your wrist so it doesnt flap about and doesnt dig in anywhere. its great for most water sports, but it does come second to leaving it withsomeone in the car.

hi im a design student in uk, and im currently doing a project for the brand Speedo. i am at the stage of researching into what surfers' needs are, and looking for an idea for a new product that Speedo could produce.

Does it have to be for Speedo?

I say that as here in "the OC" the word (and Brand) "Speedo" are derogatory; referring to the super small racing bathing suits....also known as "banana hammocks"

an example:
"there was an ambulance at Blacks today...."
"yeah some Barney from the 909 was hit so hard by the lip they had to surgically remove his Speedos from the crack of his Ass....."
"that sucks"
"yeah but be glad, at least had one on...."
(FYI: Blacks beach is also a clothing optional beach.....)

but let me be constructive with this question; lets just say that surfers are some of the most discerning customers in any market. They know the difference between whats a gimmick and what is useful and can smell fake from a mile away.....So make the familiar new and the new familiar....

but what about keys that have a battery in them for zapping the car... i', looking for something that will protect my key whilst I'm in the water without leaving it on the beach for some pikey to pinch... any ideas??

Nope they're stupid. I've just stopped using mine. The problem with modern long, substancial car keys is when they're tucked away in the wee sleeve with the leash and secure...when you go to do up the leash...it's like there is a 2-3 inch long bit of metal poking along one side of your ankle. You can feel it and the tighter you do up your leash...the more you feel it. Just plain stupid.

If they were orientated up & down it would be so much better, but then you're leash band would need to be 3 inches high to accomidate the key. Duh !!!

my problem with the leash is also because i'm goofy footed, but right handed. so when im walkin out into the surf, just after putting my leash on, im holding the board under my right arm, while its attatched to my left leg. and i keep trippin up, lol. n/m, i'll just have to look like an arse!

why dont you wait to put on your leash right before you get in the water, or even wait until youve paddled past the break, and take it off when you get out? thats what everyone here does. wrap it around the fins.
swivels dont help me, the worst is when it gets stuck right between my toes when i stand up on a beautifl wave with a nice face right infront of me and theres nothing i can do.
the shhorter a leash you have the less this happens though. i have two, one 6ft the other 8ft, it never used to happen with the 6 ft but im too lazy to put it on my new board.

now whats this about girls accidentally exposing themselves? ive never been lucky enough to see such a thing. this happens?

freaky wlsh chick i have the exact same problem, goofy and right handed. and i always get angled up as the biggest set of the day comes in and end up tripping over and getting smashed (as much as you can in tiny waves that is)

webbed gloves are cool, i got some a while back and theyre odd (one is xx large the other is just large) but work well, and look funny, and are horrendously spensive.

how bout a pouch for a snack?

Webbed gloves are great...until the water warms up & you don't need them.....it's like you're paddling half-strength after using them. Abit like getting used to swimming with fins.....and then going bare-foot.
Re the spray on Wax.....be like me & just use front deck grip, I've been using gorilla grip front pads for years....zero maintence & constant, reliable & never changing grip. Not to mention no mess. Can't understand why more of the brothers don't indulge.

Yea, why not...
is there a logical reason why they are done up at the front ? buggered if I know it. Also, why are they so stupidly baggy. They really are annoying & floppy in the water, in summer I always wonder this... are they meant to fill up with water and be annoying or what?...if they were just an inch or two shorter & abit more streamlined they'd make so much more sense.
If wetsuit shorts we're so damm popular with members of the gay community here...I'd be wearing them as an alternative...
