how well do fish's ride, and what kind of wax

right now i have a 6'1 round tail shortboard, and i heard fish's are easier to ride down a steep wall on. is that true? do they float better? is it easier to do cutbacks or get air? what are the pros and cons of a fish, and how long do they make them? i want something thats longer than the one ive got. im the same hight as my board now and i want something thats like 7 feet.

also whats the difference between cold and hot water wax? i use tropical wax and i think its too soft and it rubs off to easy. should i try getting cold watter wax?

fishes are made alot thicker than your regular shortboard. they are designed to catch waves easier. fishes are supposed to be 2-4" shorter than your regular shortbaord as well. this is because they float you more. if your wax is rubbing off then i guess you should try wax for colder water. how warm is the water you are surfing? as far as the difference between cold and warm water wax is hardness. warm water wax is harder to hold up in warm water. cold water wax is softer so that when the cold water ardens it up it is still grippy. hope this helped a little.

Well as to the fishes... they are no longer made thicker. Those thicker boards that are like 3.5" thick are retro boards. Now there making them a tad thicker than a shortboard... mabye .4 of an inch. However the difference is mostly in the nose and tail and width.... a fishes nose is wider and a cross between a shortboard and a longboard's. this is so you dont nosedive as easily. The tail is a swallow tail so it allows for a slightly wider tail. the board is also a few inches wider then the shortboards.

would you recommend a fish? i am 6'1 and 160 pounds (i think, maybe less) and i ride a 6'1 shortboard. i want something thats fasterand easierfor balance but still a high performance board. would it be worth the trouble of selling my board and buying a fish or a longer shortboard?

i would go with the fish... personally i love them. However i wouldnt sell your board now. I would keep it and have two.

GO WITH A FISH! they are fast and they float better. you could probably get a 6' fish and it would be good. i am 6' and looking to get a 5'10" fish.

it all depends on what you want. if you are tired of your board and are willing to try something new then go for it.

if your haveing trouble riding with your board.... then yes id say it is. But if its the occasional miss or nose dive then no its not.
