Taking Pictures

Taking Pictures

Postby MillencolinMan » Sat Nov 13, 2004 8:28 pm

I'm looking to take some pictures this winter when I do my trip up California coast. I know I could just use a disposable camera but do they come out alright? Am I better off just standing on shore and taking pics of my friends and rotating off or should I just throw some fins on and get in the water with a 5 dollar disposable camera :?:

Thanks!

Dude, definitely get out there with that disposable, anyone can take photos from the shore. Even if they dont come out all that good what youl usually find is they are still pretty damn interesting, personally the ones i love are the ones that are totally blurred with water droplets on the lens, there so cool.

Or, even better, do a few land shots and a few water ones!

Good luck!

Get in the water, especially with the underwater disposable cameras you can buy nowadays. I have an Olympus digital camera that I even take in the water with me, it's 'weatherproof' which means it can withstand anything short of being submerged in water.

ahhhh my friend " !!!!!!!!

yes go for a throw away camera first for obvious reasons , me and my man had an excellent day not so long ago with a disposable underwater camera !! .. it was a stormy day so we were'nt expecting much from the quality but we ended up with a good handfull of good action shots , takeoff etc ' , and just messing about trying to duckdive with the camera on front to catch some nice trippy piccys ( lol' ..none of those came out )

but yeh , most deff' worth the doing ... one of the best days i had this year . After chrimbo' im going to treat myself to a nice compact cannon camera ... good range , small enuff to put around yer neck ..and only £100 ...

Hope you have a wicked day like we did

If you are interested, I have hundreds of waterproof disposable camera surf photos on my website, going back to 1997. I carry a camera in my shorts pocket and try to get a few water shots to every time I surf. Been documenting all my sessions with a journal/sometimes pics since '97.

Earlier this year, I gave up the disposables and started carrying the digital Sony DCS U60 instead.

It seems that this forum automatically, or moderator(s) edited the links in my previous post? I found this forum by tracing stat referrals/links to my website.

Unlike almost every other, my personal surfing website has nothing to sell and zero advertisements. 100% funded by me and my obsession/love of surfing. Oh well, just thought I might be of some help here. See ya.

hi namino and Happy New year !

.. no worries , i let you know more about the Cannon camera when i get into town this week .
from what i remember it was the same size as a standard compact camera , range underwater was apprx 20-30ft . Doesnt sound much but i thought that was enough for surfing shots and because it was small enough i could paddle out with it on a lanyard cord around my neck .The price was reasonable (£100sterling) as all other underwater cameras i had looked at were either much cheaper and not really up to the job or were full on diver type box cameras with big range finders and a price tag to match! (£300min' ).

Obviously a big box camera would be usefull having an exterior view finder , as the Cannon is pretty much the same as a standard quality camera which means you need it against yer face to see what your shooting at .. " that isnt always possible when your half drowning trying to hang on to yer board and trying to get yer buddy in frame !! :? ..

I will find out the Model' of the Cannon and post as soon as' . for the money i thought it was a good buy :D
