Biarritz in May - Any pointers?

Hey All

Looks like I might be getting a trip to Biarritz in May. Seriously shoe-string budget, so can't take my own board. No car, staying just north of town.

Any pointers on where I can rent a board, which beaches I can try.

It'll be mid-week so weekend crowds won't be an issue hopefully.

Any ideas gratefully received

You can rent a bard for a week or so from a shop called plums right next to Grande Plage, they have everything form NSP's to perfomance longboards and shortboards. I rented a board from there for about a week and surfed around Cote Des Basques and Hossegor up north for a week.
It was quite cheap rental as well.
Definately check out some of the Hossegor beach breaks like La Nord, Les Estagnots and La Graviere great fun on a clean day.

If you haven't got a car then you could get the bus, or even walk to Anglet if you staying on North side Biaritz. More shops and more choice of break than Grand Plage - but can be a pain to paddle out if more that 4ftish and can be serious if bigger - I've seen stand up barrels scored at Le Club.

Grand Plage can also be quite a nice wave - hollow and fast in medium+ clean swell - good for posing if you're in the mood.

An easier option surfwise is Plage de Cote de Basque just round the point in south Biarritz - more mellow break, not sure about board hire though.

Grand Plage is so crowded though, in Summer t's awful but it should be ok in May.

You in Anglet? Stick the the setups around the groynes along that stretch upto the river mouth. good semmy wedgy breaks.

watch out for the shorebreak paddling out at anglet. its already been said but its a beast above 4 ft.

Had fun at Plage de Cote Basque two years ago, but still saw 5-7ft in August! Prefer it over the central Biarritz breaks as its more forgiving, and quieter.
