Durban, South Africa

I may be taking a job in Durban in a few months. I'm stoked because I've always wanted to surf J-bay. Doing some research on line, I've discovered that South Africa has a bad reputation for crime. Since I'm bringing my family with me, this is obviously a concern. Any info from someone that has been there recently would be nice.

yeah i had a friend who was from Durban and she said that Durban had like the highest murder rate in the civilized world. if you do go be sure to try some durban poison.

I lived in Cape Town for seven months and never came across any trouble! Jo Burg is abit intimidating though? Got a far few friends from Durban and they seem to think its pretty cool.
