Beginner surfing in the state of Oaxaca

I'm taking a trip to Oaxaca in a week and would like to do some surfing. Puerto Escondido is probably out of my skill level. Does anyone know of any breaks in the area that are more suited to beginners/longboarding? Are there surf shops/rentals nearby?
