I'm new to both surfing and Taiwan but am super stoked to learn how to ride. I was recently down in the south near Kending but the surf was so small that it was pretty much un-rideable (I did manage to catch a couple short waves on a mammoth board). A couple of friends and I are located in Taichung and we've been wondering about the surf in Da'an? I've heard that there is a small break there but we were wondering as well if you are able to rent boards there.

Thanks for any help that you can give,

Jordan

Hi Jordan. I just started surfing surfing myself. Just tried it yesterday at Daan. I have a calling card of a place where you can rent and buy gears in Daan. Boards are 500 a day and lodging is 400 per person i think.
He was even nice enough to take me to the spot where they surf. About 10 minutes ride with a scooter from their shop. Although there are a few spots where you can walk to near the shop.
His website is http://www.jasonsurfwork.com but the website is in chinese though.
Phone number is 0928337760
Hope it works out.
If you have a hard time figuring out where it is, i suggest you get a Taiwanese friend to ask for directions.
If you still can't find it, just send me a message here. I'll try my best to draw a map for you :-)

I hear you

I surfed the southern beaches of Taiwan last year and had a total blast. All along the east coast you'll find empty waves, and there's a few spots on the west coast too. Here is a link to my blog with info and a video... http://www.maitravelsite.com/east-and-s ... ng-taiwan/

Here are some pics :)
