okay... so hoping to go to bristol university next year and wana know, is there any easily accessable surf around the area?

I guess from Bristol the easiest and best place to head to is North Devon . . you could head up into Wales but that's a lot further to go . . North Devon would be the best place, check out some info on breaks along the coast towards the top of North Devon :D

Why don't you wait until you have a reading week or half term and get out of the country? You could even ask your uni if they run volunteer projects or work placements so you could go abroad somewhere like Oz, imagine the surf you'll catch there!

Bristol Uni have a surf club so prob your best best to meet other peeps to share lifts etc.

South Wales longer and the cost of bridge but some spanking breaks there.
As mentioned North Devons easiest to get to. If you want to head further your looking at more than 3hrs really.
South Coast has a nice selection but that far east its getting fickle
