Help Choosing board, NSP or 7s Superfish.

Postby TOESoFURY » Thu May 03, 2012 10:01 am

Hello everybody, I am new to surfing and am seeking some advice on which surfboard to buy.
To answer any questions I live in New Zealand, Surrounded by water in a town of 600, heck I even
catch a boat to school. I am a very experienced body boarder and wave skier.
I will have constant access to the beach (5min walk, choice of 3 bays).
I am 5 foot 7 and 100 pounds or 45kg's, I am a strong ocean swimmer and know how to identify rips, sand bars e.t.c. I am looking to either buy a 6'4 7s super fish, or a 6'8 NSP funboard,
would either of these boards be suitable for me?

Hi there in the land of whaikikamukau, since you want to start short, I'd recommend the 7S it is not so much a fish ,but a highly functional swallowtail, the shaper used to make my boards when I lived nearby.
The volume will forgive you lack of length, and you could also think abou the 7'3" 7S.
There is a lot more progress for you in this than the fun shape and IMO they are both as stable.

Good luck, 600 people, well that's certainly not Raglan. Whananaki? :D

Thanks mate, but just one last question, what length fish do you recommend?

Oh and Whananaki? Never heard of it, Northland Russell is where I live. Some great beach breaks
around here, ever heard of Elliots bay? Amazing place, and the best part about living up here, you only have to share with like 1 or 2 people.

If the choice is only between the 2 boards you listed, I would go with the 6'4" super fish. My son learned on a 6'6" fish. It was a great all around board, and he is now riding a high performance Channel Islands 6'3" shortboard.

Just to the north of Sandy bay just to north of Whangarei on the east coast but south of Russell.
