locks?

I spent a week strapping my board on top of the car so my friends could ride with me and then unstrapping it and putting it inside the car when I had to leave it. All good exercise but very time consuming. I've seen some sort of locks on the internet so that you can leave your board strapped on top of the car. How exactly do they work and would you still end up stressing that someone would steal it? Any suggestions? Thanks. x

I reckon if you leave anything on top of a vehicle whether it's locked or not, will be tempting for some little c**t to have a go at least.
So you could end up with a damaged car and damaged board!
I reckon those locks are Ok if you're on a trip and stopping at the service station for an hour, but other than that, I'd be worried some f**ker will be having a go while I slept!

Probably the most common, check out their web site, there are two designs... one for a fin box the other for the leash plug. (think you will find that it is an Australian product, but they will ship anywhere)

I looked at that site, and I reckon it'll be OK to leave your boards for a short time, but theres no way I'd leave boards on top of a car overnight with any kind of lock............If car thieves can break into a car, snap the steering wheel lock and start it up in less than 2 minutes, this would be a piece of cake for them!

Doing some design work at a diferent site and have little time for this.... true on the over night thing but any normal person wouldn't think of doing that; They are good for the day trip especially for the family outing when you want to duck in for a bite or a bit of shopping for a few hours.... not a perminate fixture and I would remove the lock and gumby brace before traveling.

I bought a high-quality stainless steel fishing trace about 3 meters long (long bit of thin braided 150lbs breaking strain wire with two crimped loops at either end), when I leave board(s) when going into a shop for a feed or a walk around I simply feed the trace through the board bag zipper hoops and thread each board bag on...I then run the trace into the car through a very partially open window and padlock the trace to my car seat frame down by the handbrake. Works a a treat, cost flesh-all, isn't glaringly obvious & is a good deterrent.

Nothing will stop a serious thief, anything you do is only to stop the young oppertunist (almost all crims) whose driving past with his mates & decides to have a go. This works good for this. This and parking the car somewhere in full public view also. Never park down a shady side street.
