Surf Wax - Yer wot???????????????

Postby IdRatherBeSurfing » Sun Oct 23, 2005 5:03 pm

Went to ma local surf shop this morning for some wax before I went out to play on my new board..

The shop assistant guy says something like "It depends on whether you're using a double layer system" (or something like that....

I just said Whhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaattttttt???? :? :?

So he sold me some Mrs Palmer wax (I think thats what it was anyway)

Still - It worked whatever it was!

people often use tropical wax as a base layer helps the wax keep those nice little bumps

I don't know about that... I always use two different grades of wax. The 1st that I apply is a harder wax the 2nd a softer wax (to suit water temp) that I reapply each time I go out... The base layer is like a safety system; the top rubs away but you still stick as there is a harder base layer left.

Regarding the little bumps... don't know about your concept but low pressure circular motion using the corner/edge of the wax produces these "bumps" best... you can see an example of them on the picture of my board here: GRUB'S SPACE. If you would like a more detailed method let me know.
