cracked rail repair

hi,

i've got a few cracks on the rail of my board that need attention.
I've got a repair kit, but the instructions in the kit tell me to use a sheet of cloth over the ding. this makes sense for bigger dings... mines just a crack/very small dings that not water-tight.

can i just mix up the resin and then apply a coat over the cracks and small dings to seal the board, as a permanent repair job?

Yes, that should work depending on how deep the cracks are. Sand the area down good before applying the resin. If the cracks are deep, it is best to sand them down and use a light 2 oz cloth to make sure they are sealed. If you do not use cloth keep an eye on the repair to make sure the cracks do not take in any water.

ah great thanks. i'm pretty sure the board took on water, so i've opened the cracks up to help dry the board up... will i need cloth to repair these holes? they arn't very big and only just reach the foam of the board.

I'd use a bit of cloth anyway as rails tend to take the brunt of any impacts, and more of their fair share of them. All my self repairs look pretty nasty, but they all last. Pretty lazy when it comes to sanding.
