Firewire Surfboards??

Does anyone know about the Firewire, Flexfire? Im thinking of buying it for my first shortboard. Im 5 7" and 150lbs. im thinking of getting the board at 5 11" for 3-5ft. waves....is this a good decision (size wise for my deminsions and wave height)?

i've been surfing a year now on a 7 2" funboard.

could be the right decision, but possible go a little bigger, say like 6'4 ish, its hard to say without seeing you surf, also its hard to tell what waves the board will be suited for with just the length

Make sure you see what you are buying before you fork out the cash.

Heard some bad stuff about the newer FW batches.

Was looking closely at the very latest here in Oz last week. Iv got a few boards including a 6'8" TL2 Aftrerburner an I have to say the Firewire is going to be my next board. I hope to have a 6'6" in a week.

if you have been riding a 7'2 funboard i would deffo not recommend getting a flexfire for your second board. I have seen them and they are very high performance making them really responsive and fast. It will be a huge step down for you and i think you probably won't be able to cope.

Even with a larger board a firewire will be too high performance. However, if you want a firewire you could try something from the other series, like a futura or a alternator.

The Futura is a fish but it is quite qide and has a fuller template. This means it will be more stabkle and better for you to progress on. This goes the same for the alternator but the alternator is more high performance as it is narrower.

All, in all, it is your choice really but i would not go with a flexfire.

Let me know what you go for and ask at your local surf shops, they will know where to point you.

Yea Doug, I am pretty sure the whole quality problem has been resolved. I recently rode a Firewire flexfire in Oz, one of the new ones and they're awesome boards. The finishing was back up to the original Bert Berger standards and they rode really nice and flexy!

I recently bought a 6'2 Flexfire and I am around 80kgs. Best board I have ever ridden! Relatively forgiving, but still very performance driven and very fast. I did struggle to find a place that stocked them and had some legit feed back to give me / customer service.

I found these guys at http://www.naturalnecessity.com.au, super help full and got my brand new board delivered to me free of charge, worth checking out if you just want some feed back, or even a new board I guess

The surf shop mentioned in the link has various trial surfboards that you can surf at nearby Gerringong and Werri Beach after your produce a driver's licence verifying you address.
Before anyone get too excited, 2hours drive south of Sydney New South Wales in Gerringong. Good crew to deal with.
