dropping in backwards

whats up with all this bids i see with longboarders paddling in backwards? they like turn once they've caught the wave

iv done it a few times and its bloddy hard to do, basicly you got to catch the wave late because the fins have to be out of the water, then you pop up make the fins go in the water and it turns, like if you push your board backwards it turns.

oo i get wat u mean..so like paddling with the fins infront of you wen paddling for wave.. I done this once on a Bic 7'9

Not that uncommon here in So Cal, it's called a Helicopter. I've seen Longboarder and Shortboarders doing them. I'm not particularly interested in doing one myself, I prefer trying to achieve the glide, hanging 5 or 10 or most importantly, getting in the keg.
