help with BiC longboards...

Hi all,

I want to buy a longboard and I have been offered two BiC longboards to buy: 9' or 9'4''.
What do you think of BiC surfboards? Is the CTS is better than regular foam?
Do you know someone who uses the 9' or the 9'4'' models?

It's not about the materials, it's about the board.

If you're a beginner, the a BIC may work for you. But you want to price compare versus quality by learning a bit more about boards, their construction, and what would work best for you.

I am not a beginner. A year and a half ago I started surfing , I bought a second hand 7'6'' funboard and I had fun. After a year I sold it and bought myself a custom 7'2'' funboard from a local shaper that is a hybrid between a shortboard and a funboard. The problem was that I cought half the waves that I could with the old board because I am a quite big. Only in large surf I can catch waves with it so I decided to buy myself a longboard in order to surf also in smaller waves that we regularly have here...

So, it'a not my first board but it is my first longboard. I just don't trust the local shapers here because longboarding is not so common here...

Well, go to a local surf shop and check out what they have. There are some good 'imports' that aren't pop-outs. A lot are Silmar glassed. And then there are the regular batch of surfboard makers that usually have a couple longboards in stock at surf shops.

The problem is that I am not experienced anough to know a good longboard from a bad one. And furthermore, there may be a good board that can be bad for me and less good one that can be perfect for me.

for example, the 9' bic board has relative more rocker on the nose and the rail than the 9'4'' one. But the bottom of the 9'4'' is flat with no concave which the 9' has...

I guess I have to pick one and upgrade myself in a custom made in my next longboard...

BiC's are good for learning and are indestructible (so I've been told ) but they are quite heavy and hard to manuever. I tried one out once, caught everything around, couldn't turn it worth crap. If you aren't a beginner, which it sounds like you are not, I would look at skipping the BiC and heading straight to something like a Walden or Robert August or something like that. Lots to choose from, just start doing some research on the web. Ask around to other surfers, surf shops, this chat, etc.

IMO I would forget about the BIC.
Go to a your favorite shop or a couple of shops and check out what they have. Talk to someone at the shop about the boards and what you want to do on it surfing wise (long smooth lines, noseriding, lots of turns, high preformance...). Pick a couple up that you like and feel them and really look them over. Then just pick one and go sufing. Otherwise you just over anaylize and hem and haw over the damn thing and never end up getting one.

GO FOR A 9' CLASSIC, IV GOT ONE AND ITS AMAZING, GARRRRRR im so pissed off with people always saying bic are heavy and hard to menuver, that is only true with there mini mals and shortboards and the nat young, iv got a 9ft bic classic and iv surfed it in about 6-8ft surf and its handeld amazingly, it has super thin rails so it turns like a dream and its alright for noesriding, so people dont knock it till youve tried it, but i must admit this board is shitty in surf under 2ft unless you swap fins.

Iv been surfing for about 3 years now and im not gunu sell my bic cas it is indestructable, and it iv a very good performance board, if i had a glassed longboard i recon it would be snapped in half with some of the drops and hits iv had on my board, it is such a nice board to ride and iv surfed saunton when its big sometimes and cas iv scraped off the decils and its a ltd edish poeple ask what board is that and ask me about it and when i say its a bic they say no way and u bein serious, it is such a nice board and im fed up with people dissin them so dont lisen to them, its cheap and a good board but it now
