Just bought a used UFO Rocket and learning in L.A., CA

Hey, all! I'm new here and to surfing. I just bought a slightly dinged UFO Rocket, leash, soft rack, and sock for $285. Sweet or what? Trouble is, learning on this board isn't going so well. I just read that the Rocket are performance boards. Definitely not what I wanted to learn on, but the price was too good to pass up. Other than jsut to keep at it, does anyone have any suggestions? I go out at least once a week, but try for three times a week. This is in L.A., CA. Anyone out here know of good places where to learn? I've heard of some, but I'm always looking for more. Thanks!

how big is the board and how big are you? its never a good deal if its something you cant learn on
