Should I get this board

Hello!

Im wanting to buy my first board, I've had a few lessons but still Im pretty bad. I can only just about stand up! I thought that rather than keep having lessons Id get my own board and practice what I know.

I've seen this board on ebay but havent much of a clue what I should get!

Do you think this is a winner?

Im 5' 3" and 9 stone and a complete begginer!

I think you'd have more fun with a 9-foot longboard. It will float better and be more stable. There really is a noticeable difference in 0.5 foot.

i agree the extra length for learning realy helps the right boaed makes all the difference, im from newport if you ever surf porthcawl i got a 9'6 board ur more than welcome to try a couple of waves on. and this is a great time to buy a board just maked sure u ask anyone u can who knows a little about them to try and get the best board for you

A bit over priced then? I think Im prime fodder for getting ripped off!
I was thinking if it was a little bit shorter it would be easier for me to carry out of water but it sounds like im better of with a longer board, thanks for the advise!

i have been surfing just over a year now and finaly can see some real improvements how long have you been surfing? the board weight is a difficult one my 9'6 was quite a cheap one so i found its a little heavier than i would like but i recently tried a surftect and some boards shaped by will easton and depending on what your after they were both quite light one of wills boards was a 9'4 and would be easy for anyone to carry. but trying boards realy helps i think PJs shop by llangenith has trial boards you can take out for a surf to see how you like then see if there for you could help you pick one. whats your local break then ?

Not long, I started in july this year and have only been a couple of times, but if I had my own board I could pop out anytime ive a day off. I live in Birmingham so its a bit of a trek to get anywhere and so dont have a local surf as such. Ive been to cornwall and am going back there for a long weekend in october. Also Ive been to llangennith once....that was good but the sea was a lot rougher!
Thanks for the tip on PJ's...I might have to try that out one day! Is Porthcawl similar surf to llangenarth?

porthcawls water is usualy a bit browner but quite a similar beach break although there are some more breaks on the coast down here that are a little more sheltered. You could surf north wales on the right swell as well from birmingham. Cornwalls cool where are u staying when you go down? i gotta book to go at some point going to see a shaper down there for some new boards. if your down there google Will Eastham hes a shaper down there and sells second hand boards to plus one of the nices guys you could meet.

I have to agree with one of the above posters. That is definitely a shorter board, and unless you're looking for that awkward funboard shape to transition to short boarding, then I would go with a nice, long, and true longboard. They're out there!
