shortboard/help me plz

hi i have just had my b-day and i got £250 to spend and i reley want a new shortboard i ride a 7'3 minimal at the mo. can any one recomend a go place to buy one and wat sort of size i am 5'11 and way about 11 stone.

How good a surfer are you and what type of waves do you expect to be using this board on?

To give him the quick answer, you can buy a shortboard at any surf shop (they sell 2nd hand as well). You could try Ebay tooo, and also for your height/weight, I would't go shorter than 6'6. Try a 6'10.

But IdRatherBeSurfing is right, if you search for a minute you will find hundreds of answers.

I wouldn't be in a rush to shortboard though. Surf on something that will help you catch waves

I honestly dont understand why you guys always suggest 6'6+ shortboards. if he is a semi-experienced surfer and wants to take the plunge into shortboarding, why not go for a shortboard?? I wouldnt reccommend a 5'11 board, but I am 6 foot and about the same weight as him and I ride a 6'3, when I first started shortboarding I was 5'11 and rode a 6'1. shorter boards arent necessarily the end of the world

honestly, I think you should ask your surf shop if you can trial a board or two, just to see what dimensions you feel comfortable riding. After it is considered, then think about buying a board...dont just jump in and buy an off the rack board (or off the internet for that matter) that might not be the dimensions you want to progress on. Really, if you dont know what board you want (dimensions and length) then you should be researching what the different dimensions on boards do to the way the board rides, and how they ride in different conditions.

Do some research before blowing that cash, its a lot of money!

Looks decent.. I haven't had any epoxy experiences myself, though.

Good fins will run you another 50 bucks, but throw in a bid and see what happens. Dunno if I'd buy it now, but maybe a 50 pound limit.

Is a shortboard only considered as being <6'6 ?

I give up with these "I want to start shortboarding" threads so im going to leave them alone. If anyone wants to get a shortboard then get it, screw the size and just get what you want. You can surf on any board, but some can make learning harder.

Laguna is right. Dropping from a 7'3 minimal to anything smaller than a 6'6 is just going to make life harder. My mate gave up on surfing after selling his bic and buying a 6'2 because it was just too hard. you need to gradually work your way down. Get a 6'6-6'10 and in a few years you'll be ripping on a smaller shortboard

I wouldn't touch the top ebay board mate, too much of an unkown quantity. I would consider the Billabong but then I'd rule it out as its a fish. I don't like fish personally. Do you like fish?
Realistically you should get a bigger board really as the nearest surf spot to you is an hour and a half away so I'm guessing you're not geting wet often enough to progress fast enough to get such a short board yet .

Get your ass down to Newquay and check out all the surf shops to see what there is second hand, and you can hire out something to use if there's any waves in the mean time .
