Deck grip on Semi-gun?

I've got a semi-gun for those bigger days and am in the process of cleaning the wax off to put a deck grip/traction pad on. Question is, how far back on the board should I position it?
On my normal short-boards it goes right at the tail, and both feels and looks right; the semi-gun obviously has a long narrow pin-tail, and the volume of the board is positioned further forward than a regular board, so I feel as if I stand further forward on the board (hope I'm making sense). Putting the pad at the tail close to the leash plug just looks off balance, and my back foot isn't normally that far back - but i don't know, should i be turning from the very tail on a semi-gun??? Anyone know what's technically best, and where I should put the grip??

wherever your back foot is when you surf! Where it feels most comfortable?!?!

you'll find on the bigger days you'll be more forward on your board anyway, most probably infront of your grip.

I find on the bigger days, i'm well infront of the grip but its useful for when the wave is at the end and you start to slow down & need that little extra stability.

Sorry this is kinda off-topic, but can you put a deck grip on a funboard? Or is that just stupid for a beginner? I'd like to try one out and see how it feels.

You can, but you probably don't need one.
Better off saving for a better board...
