Ordered new board (yes, again)

So I sold it, and my shaper felt bad because I ordered my original board 2 5/8 and he made 2 1/2 because he thought it would be too thick so he gave me the new one at cost.

That's one mighty fine surfboard shaper! So did you keep the other details the same/similar and just pump up the thickness with this one or are the other changes too?

PS I'm insanely jealous - my last new board was over 2 years ago (but still hands down the best board I've ever ridden for my size/ability)

Everthing is mostly the same except the thicknes,and I had him thin the nose a little more than last time. More or less, it's a pod with a narrower nose and tail for better performance.

Tried it today in super mushy Ocean Beach surf, caught waves fine and I felt comfortable from the get go, now I just need to try it in steeper surf to see how it performs

Update: loved it, used it, then sold it. Yes, sold it.

Why? Simple, it had awesome paddle, easy wave catching, and I had it at overhead and a half baja with no problem, but the extra thickness in the rails let me down just a bit in the steepest sections plus it was a bear to duckdive

So, ordered a new one, 6'2 x 20 x 2 1/2 epoxy but with way thinned out rails, so it will still glide and paddle because of the extra width and thickness but should be much easier to duckdive and dig in the rail due to thinning out of the entire outline. Chose epoxy because of buoyancy since I'm 200 lbs, plus my shaper is using a blank that has a hgih density lightweight foam stringer instead of wood which will make it ultra light. Even with bells and whistles under $490! Will post the new stick.

6'2 x 2 1/2" x 20" a little more volume, I'm 200lbs. Also, it's EPS with a foam stringer, so it floats more than PU, which I need.

IB had windy choppy 2ft conditions and I caught half a dozen waves after work. So far so good, paddles the same as the old one but way easier to duckdive. Now need to try it in bigger surf...

Took it out this morning, it was supper bumpy and high tide but head to overhead size, totally fun. Dropped in steep and it cut into waves with no problem, and the rail dug in way easier than it's thicker predecesor. The only thing I am going to change is the fins, I got some GRX fins and they are slightly small, gonna put those on my big board.

So, success, now last post!

Brining this thread back for an update and a parallel question.

The board is awesome, I use it on anything up to 8ft, except when I want to surf heavy walls I take out my step up. had it in baja in bigger A frames too. It's just right, the epoxy really makes it paddle like a bigger board.

So, the update: I had my shaper put in a quad option and have been using it that way the past 2 weeks, thought I could change back and forth depending on conditions. But weird, I seem to like the quad set up better, even in big surf! I think it's because I feel I can paddle easier into the wave, but I have not experienced the slip I expected as a quad.

so question: change it back to thruster on big days? Or just keep enjoying the quad unless it lets me down?

I do like the added paddle I get out of the qaud...

I had a similar experience, bought some jordy smith futures and they felt slow so I the my am2 back in and much happier. Maybe it's just mental I'll try again on the next big swell.
