I reckon its cos of the quad evolution thats happening... (this is how it seems to me anyway)... Quads re-emerged recently and were quickly taken up on fishy type boards, so you'd want that quite a bit shorter than your normal shortboard.
But now they're becoming a standard shortboard set up too, and those you'd probably want a similar length to a thruster.
I've got a 6'3 shortboard quad - its quite fat in the tail (but not fishy fat) so, yes, its an inch or two shorter than my shortboards.
now the only problem is that i keep hearin two sides of the story some people say to get it an inch or 2 smaller that my normal short board. i ride a 6'0 im like 5'9 like 150. i was lookin to gettin the 6'2 just in case of the waves are little and was also thinking that if they get big i'll have the bigger board to get the bigger waves. lol im not sure this whole quad fin thing scares me and also im soo amped to ride it from the things that i heard about it. just wondering if i should go with....or if i should just scrap the whole idea and just get an alternator. 
anyways if someone knows a better idea or better quad if or whatever that would be sweet.
