new to the game

I just moved to St. Augustine and have been at the beach all summer. I'm tired of laying around on the beach and want to get into surfing. I hear for beginners, the bigger the better, so does anyone have any suggestions for the type of board i should buy? I'm hoping to find a used one to start out on. I'm planning on being in this area for a long time, and i want surfing to be in my daily routine.

go for a funboard, or longboard. the more float the better, gets you more waves and easier to paddle and balance. you maybe could try a fish
