Surf Spot Details

Wave Quality Rating 5 Type of Wave Beach break Direction of Wave Right & left Bottom Sand Difficulty Advanced surfer Crowd Level Busy Hazards none General Description Blacks is one of san diego's jewels. With deep underwater canyons that create more power to the wave. Blacks can handle just about any size with numerable lefts and righs to be had. The surf here can be world class. Crowds are few and far between that is unless its firing then expect a mob ful of experienced surfed. Blacks is a fast high preformance, hollow and powerfull wave that does not suit a beginer - beginers are better off at scrips pier. Be carefull of sneaker sets as these can even humble the pros. Blacks can really turn on fast just dont expect an easy time. Wipeouts are harsh as you can get held down a loooong time. All that said its a must to surf in san diego and a shortboarders paradise when its on. The only downside is that its a nudest beach - the downside being that its mainly old men so dont expect to see any mermaids. Despite its seclution blacks does have frequent lifeguard patrols. Just do yourself a favour respect blacks you will regret it if you dont.

General Info

How to get there Blacks is easy to find just point yourself towards torey pines golf course and look for the handglider port turnoff. Take the dirt rode to the end and you will come across a trail. This is not for the faint hearted its very high and a really long way down. If you are scared of heights wait for low tide and walk round from torey pines state beach. If you are fit then you should have no problems just remember after your session to save some energy for the hump back up the hill - mark my words its a looooong way down but even longer getting back up. The trail down is pretty mmuch a no brainer but first timers should use caution. Just dont forget anything otherwise its a loong way back to the car. Access & Parking Info / Cost Park in the dirt carpark lext to the glider port - its free so no worries. When its Flat? Blacks has several hiking trails that are spectacular a must to explore. Just watch out for false trails.
