Georgia Surfing Info and Details
Typically small surf. Best during hurricane season with a hurricane or strong low pressure system close by off the Georgia coast. The ocean shelf is so shallow for so long that it makes Georgia a bad surfing location. I surf here out of desperation. It does get ridable when the bouys are reading over 3.5 and 9 seconds wave period of bigger. Refer to Grays Reef Bouy for swell measurements. Tybee Island by Savannah is easiest to access and is the most popular spot in Georgia. But note: Georgia is lined with barrier islands. Some surfers boast of catching some great surf sessions at some of these islands or the outer sandbars during Hurricane season. These spots I'm refering to are accessible only by offshore boats.
