The waves here break left on the rivermouth sand bar and provide a long, powerful barreling ride. It holds big swells and is the best wave in Europe when it is on.

The wave has been under threat over the last few years due to dredging in the area and even stopped breaking at one point. Fortunately the wave is now by UNESCO and hopefully it's future as one of the great world waves is assured.

Mundaka now plays host to a stop on the ASP World Tour.

General Info

How to get there The wave breaks on the rivermouth in the small fishing town of Mundaka (now with a thriving surf scene). Fly from Bilbao or Biarritz and drive. Catch the ferry to Santander and make your way along the coast from there. Access & Parking Info / Cost Wave is located in the center of town and easy to find.
