Wave Quality Rating 4 Type of Wave Beach break Direction of Wave Right Bottom Sand Difficulty Beginners Crowd Level Can Get Busy Hazards Rips, Rocks General Description Consistent New Plymouth beachbreak south of the port. Catches plenty of swell and can produces good surf year round.

This break often plays its part in surfing competitions and was the beach of the 2008 Rip Curl Grom Search which was won by Gisborne's Johnny Hicks. There are a couple of images from the event below.
