Information about Canary Islands The Canary Islands, or the Islas Canarias as they are know in Spanish,are located off the coast of Africa and are governed by Spain. The archipelago consists of seven major islands, two minor islands, and several small islets.

The Canary Islands are a popular holiday destination with package holidays available all year round.
The Islands are all volcanic and the beaches are of black volcanic sand.
Canary Islands Surfing Info and Details There are surf spots on all the islands. Their far south location in Europe allows quality swells the time to form in the Atlantic. The hot summers and the warm winters (in and out of the water) and consistent swells make the Canaries an ideal surfing destination.
The main surfing destination are the larger islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

The best swells are from the north.
